We first met David Kor during an event in Brea, on August 28, 2018.  As we walked down the stairs, he approached us with a large smile.  Extending his hand he introduced himself.

David was born in La Puente, California, Los Angeles County.  At the early age of 10, he became homeless. To survive he joined the gangs. This is where he started cooking.

Gang-life caught up to David, after a third strike he was sent to prison for 21 years.  He did his time, took culinary classes, and cooked for the inmates.

Upon his release, his grandpa suggested he take up cooking and leave his old life behind.  David saved up and bought his first grill.  His first cook out the neighbors showed up in force.

With hard work, a clean start, and supportive family and friends; life has been good for David.  For the past 5 years, he has been booked solid.

At one of his cookouts, a young lady stopped and tasted his food.  She recognized the spices.  This lady is Amber, owner of Chef Merito.  David had been using mixes from her company.  The two develop a friendship.  After their meeting, Amber sponsors David.

On August 28, 2018, Brea Place ask David to cook for a 1000 people.  This is where we hear the story of David, his perseverance, survival and true success.

It was a pleasure meeting David Kor and sharing his heartfelt story.
